Sometimes Random Blogging pays off

Sometimes Random Blogging pays off with something I really care about.
paidContent.org's ContentNext Series: TivoFlixing The Video Industry
I had to stop and think about this posting for a second. Tivo and Netflix partnering up to allow Netflix movies (and one would assume other content) available to streaming over the network into a member's Tivo device.
Right now, there would be a limit, as Tivo only supports fastest neworking via a wired line, which would be a little inconvenient (but possible) for us right now, but considering the speed difference between having to make my video selection over breakfast or doing the same by lunch and watching the movie that night.
Imagine no more having to manage the queue so that I always have at least one movie I want to watch. No more having to search for a Netflix envelope that survived opening (ok, that's not too bad. We seem to have all gotten the hang of opening the envelopes after the first failure). This partnership could be wild.
But will it get to market?
MSNBC - I Want a Movie! Now!
This MSNBC article points to something that makes sense: the cable companies not allowing the Tivo traffic, and the DSL providers charging an even higher premium.
My cable company already is offering to allow me more bandwidth at not that much higher a pricepoint. I am actually tempted to go with it, 5mbs. But do I really need that much pipe when I already pay about $50 for 3mbs of bandwidth.
Would a faster link get around the fact that Tivo is running at 11mbs Wifi right now?
And is my 40 hour Tivo big enough now to hold 4 movies at a time? Or does that even matter if Netflix doesn't have to send me anything. And how long is a several hours? Does my decision at breakfast, movie after dinner idea hold up?
I am just going to have to watch this for more information.

I don't remember when, but last year it looks like Tivo and Netflix put the deal indefiniately on hold.
