After I posted the last item, I reflected a little bit on my use of MySpace and LiveJournal. I realized I wasn't using either of them for anything like what they were designed. I post my own content here, not there. I have friends who use those sites, but I do not comment on those sites. And the pictures they have posted there I can explain that I think I can get some otherway.
To that end, I have deleted my MySpace and LiveJournal accounts.
LiveJournal was just sitting there idle. I still pull one feed from there, via Bloglines, but I wasn't using it. And MySpace: Let's just say that having received three spam invites from the same person peddling porn in one day and then two the next was enough. I am not using MySpace, I never had intended to use MySpace.
I have my own site here, an entire domain all of my own. I do not need LiveJournal or MySpace to host my content.
I really do not have a problem with LiveJournal. I just didn't have room for it in my life.
I am starting to realize that MySpace is all about participating in the worst type of consumerism and being a brand and attention whore. I remember a couple of articles in print and net media about MySpace and the statements from a couple of people: “On MySpace, even a boring person can seem wildly interesting.”
I do not want to make the time to cultivate a MySpace or LiveJournal social network. Thus, I no long wish myself counted as one of their users.
There are other services that I am do have accounts to that I am currently thinking about how I use them.
