It snowed
I more or less ended last year by spending some some time back up north in Bristol. It was a solo trip, which at the time seemed to be a shame, due mostly to the twenty inches of snow that the boys weren't able to play in because they were 300 miles south.
Friday night the Universe made up for that.
I'm not saying that there really was much comparison to twenty inches of snow on the ground in one day and the school closing six (max) I think we got here over the last 3 days or so. Other than the boys got to play in 6-inches, and that I was missing Pop's snow blower (and, of course, Pop, to run it and play with the boys in the snow).
So, it snows late enough Friday night to be Saturday, and then pretty much all day Saturday and after a whole day for Virginia Beach to clean up the mess, the city has decided it was in their best interest to close school Monday. Yes, they have closed school for what I believe was no more than 6 inches of snow.
Growing up, they wouldn't close school till there was at least 7-inches of snow on the ground. And we had to walk.
I'm actually a little embarrassed by this. But then Natalie tells me that Virginia Beach has at most 24 plows for dealing with this wonderful winter weather and 300 some square miles of city to deal with.
Guess that explains why we haven't seen a snow plow on our street (behind, on the more important road, yes).
And I also realize that I was in two of the strangest snow storms of the last year. Late December it actually snowing more in Bristol than Bethlehem. Late January is actually snowed in Virgina Beach enough to close school, almost.
Tomorrow was only supposed to have been a ½ day for the boys. The city is doing exams for the high schools or something, and Natalie already had to get all her grades entered in for the end of the 2nd quarter. Lovely time, really. All tech support and mild panic. And lots and lots of binders.
The good news is the boys get a little more sleep. I'm sure at least JB could use it. He's always a bear to wake on Monday mornings.
Countdown to Groundhog day . . . 1 more day. And I'm looking at six inches of snow.
