SysMango First 100 Articles

Last night I went back and reread the first one hundred items posted to SysMango.com. This is all part of trying to restore links and pictures to the site and pick nodes for the classic posts queue. The first actual post shows up as node 2, made 2003 March 26. Node 1 was done later because Sam wanted something on the post calendar for 1 March. The migration from one version of MovableType to another to Drupal ordered a number of the posts differently and changed their node numbers. Node 100 was made during the period right before Hurricane Isabelle, on 2003 September 14 . It almost seems fitting that Isabelle acts as delimiter between periods, mostly because it does. This part of 2003 appears to be marked by an frustrating combination of insomnia, unhappiness with work, unhappiness with the site's look and lots of long hours and weekends in the office. What you do not see is that this is the period where 17804 decided to outsource my job and started talking to 2 and 288 about taking it over. History tells us that even with the apparently close relationship between 2 and17804, in 2005 (yes, 2 years later) 17804 announced that they were outsourcing to 288 and creating a new company to contain one line of business (I guess I'll call that 61.9: 17804/288) This was a difficult time, but I think that I am much better off working for 288 than I ever was working for 17804. Some of the things that happened during these first hundred posts.

  • There was a fire (2003Jun10 )
  • I spent July at the office (2003Jun15 till ~2003Aug25)
  • My sister had her 2nd child (2003Jul01 )
  • One of my dogs, Max, passed away (2003Aug09)

A number of posts (too many to list) present the impression that I just was not sleeping much at all. I am still not sure that that got any better at sleeping. I'm kind of just happy that the kids sleep when we tell them. Thinking about it right now is making me sleepy. On a lighter note, on 2003May15 a movie came out. I used an element that movie this in what has become node 101. That makes the joke on that page seem even funnier (in a weird kind of Butch way). Right now, I'm just hoping that the second hundred articles start make me feel like things are getting better. And I guess now is a good time to say that tomorrow is Sunday, and I have to go into the office for something at 07:00. And this will be the second Mother's Day in a row that I'm engaged with something on Mother's Day.
