There have been some changes to SysMango.com today, but if everything went according to plan, then nobody noticed. I was looking at the site and planning to put some new content up for Myst Online: Uru Live , and I remembered that the module I had been using before this release of Drupal to provide additional information for some of the taxonomy terms was disabled because it was no longer supported. Uru was one of those terms.
There was another module that did provide the desired functionality, but it was part of a suite of modules that replaced the default taxonomy modules used in Drupal. I really wanted to use that functionality, so went and added the module to the site, and discovered that I did not fully understand the possible interactions between the new category module suite and forums. And I did all this without having done a backup. This resulted in a complete loss of the forums (the nodes were safe, but lost all their structure).
I do believe I figured out a way to not have to recreate the entirety of the forum structure, to use the new category structure. This was after I had already recreated, deleted, recreated and deleted the forum structure. So, I did not do it that way.
All that was left was to put all the surviving forum nodes back into their correct categories (none appeared to have been lost). Not that difficult. There were less than fifty, mostly about the weather. I moved some of the forum posts around into what I believe is a more sensible structure. Mostly that has been putting these longer discussions about the site's status into the SysMango Discussions.
In the process, I also turned the search block back on, and have found that it is working much better, returning what I believe are sensible results.
