Invitation to an informal gathering . . . *Location changed*

Are you an Explorer looking to help the overall Explorer community? Are you a Myst player who wants to make a statement about how what you've seen in the Cavern or read on the forums has affected you? Do you have an idea how we can help the community grow into something organized around principles of respect, trust and Uru?

Are you ready to take some kind of action?

Me, too.

I would like to invite you to an informal and unofficial gathering of your fellow Explorers who are willing to have a directed conversation about how we all feel about the Myst Online: Uru Live Explorer community.

Location: Beginner's Bevin

When: Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 12:00 EST / Noon EST

Duration: About 2 hours, give or take the level of interest

Format: Guided discussion. Chatlogs will be taken.

Facilitator: Butch (00221440)

IC/OCC Status: Neutral, mostly OOC

In a post on the DRCsite forums, I proposed that it was time that the Explorers organized themselves. The purpose of this meeting is to get the conversation going, and to do it in D'ni. This will not be a town hall format meeting, but it will be guided.

Please only attend if you are ready to listen as well as be heard. Every effort will be made to let everyone who wants to speak on an agenda item has the opportunity to be heard.

The format will be the facilitator will submit a question to the floor and everyone who wants to speak on that item may till the facilitator calls time. At that point the next item will be brought to the floor. During the conversation if someone wants to say something on some other topic, please PM the facilitator and the item will be added to a parking lot. Items from the parking lot will be reviewed either in the appropriate section or at the end of the meeting. Any topics that require follow up will be formed into Action Items, which will be reviewed at the end of the meeting.

There will be short roundtable discussion at the end of the meeting to give everyone a chance to say something in closing.

If anyone has additional items they would like to be added to the agenda, please PM them to me here at the forum. Also, please forward any references from any forum that already covers any of the agenda items.

An Overview of the Agenda

  1. Introductions
    • Be prepared to introduce yourself in a short one line item.
    • Name, organizational affiliation and experience in D'ni seem to be our normal convention.
    • Example: “Butch. Started just after UU opened. No affiliations.”
    • The facilitator will call each person in turn based on the order in his KI list.
  2. The MO:UL Community
    • What kind of organization should the Explorers pursue inside the Cavern?
    • Should Neighborhoods or non-hood groups be the basis of an community-wide organization?
    • Assuming neighborhoods are the basis of any organization, how do we represent and balance the contribution of large and small hoods alike?
    • How do we include unaligned or new Explorers willing to participate in a community-wide event.
  3. Playing Roles: IC & OCC
    • How should we balance the desire of individuals and groups to play the game different ways?
    • What changes do you want to see in how Explorers communicate with one another the events of the game given the mix of IC and OOC?
  4. DRCL
    • How can we better organize Explorers for to vote at the end of the current six-month term?
    • What questions should we be asking candidates for DRCL, assuming they are only-IC?
    • What questions should we be asking candidates for DRCL, assuming they are mixed IC & OOC?
    • How can we get more Explorers to participate during DRCL elections?
  5. Roundtable
    • Everyone will be given the chance to make a short statement.
    • The facilitator will call each person in turn based on the order in his KI list.
  6. Review of action items, if any
  7. End of meeting, open discussion.

<

p>What we will NOT be discussing:

  • Termination of DRCL. Let the DRC take what it has given.
  • Holding an election before the end of the current six-month term
  • The opening of new areas and Ages. I'm not the DRC.
  • The status of any non-player character.
  • Bugs.
